About Miami Beach

Miami Beach is a tropical paradise, with year-round warm weather and turquoise waters. World-class shopping, eighteen holes of golf, or just a stroll by the ocean are literally at your doorstep. At the shore in Miami Beach, visitors can swim, surf and jet ski in the warm and crystal-clear Atlantic waters. You can also nap on the white sands, work on a tan or simply watch the beautiful people, especially at South Beach, a favorite of models and celebrities. Miami Beach was incorporated on March 26, 1915. Its Art Deco Historic District, between 6th Street and Dade Boulevard, is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world. Built between 1923 and 1943, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) operates public transportation in Miami Beach. Along with neighborhoods such as Downtown and Brickell, public transit is heavily used in Miami Beach, and is a vital part of city life. Miami Beach encompasses an eclectic mixture of ethnic backgrounds making it a sparkling and lively destination. For example, as of 2010, those of Hispanic or Latino ancestry accounted for 53.0% of Miami Beach's population, those of African ancestry accounted for 4.4% of Miami Beach's population, those of (non-Hispanic white) European ancestry accounted for 40.5% of Miami Beach's population, and those of Asian ancestry accounted for 1.9% of Miami Beach's population.
